The term "catholic" was USED by the Church in 107 AD in defense of Heresy and AGAINST the Gnostic movement PRETENDING to be "Christians"
Irenaeus NEVER founded the Catholic Church..he was a "disciple" of Polycarp, the Church Father who was the direct successor or disciple of the Apostle John
The Church was already in place before "Irenaeus" became the Bishop of Lyons
BTW, Irenaeus is NOT Ignorant, he was a Church father and a Theologian, he wrote SEVERAL theological writings for the Church and against HERESY
